Maps available for Guthrie, New Bloomfield and Osage City
The Missouri Geological Survey, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources recently published three new geologic maps. Staff geologists, Edith Starbuck and Mike Siemens conducted field work in central Missouri and created bedrock geologic maps of the Guthrie (OFM-13-635-GS), New Bloomfield (OFM-13-636-GS) and Osage City (OFM-13-637-GS) 1:24,000 scale quadrangles.
Geologic maps provide a baseline for data related to energy resources, mineral resources, natural hazards, water resources, soil conservation and climate science. Virtually all mineral, energy, water, industrial construction, public works and urban development projects can benefit from a geologic map.
For more than 20 years, the Missouri Geological Survey has participated in the U.S. Geological Survey’s STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program. During this time, staff geologists have completed 210 bedrock and surficial material maps at a scale of 1:24,000 and complied four 1:100,000 scale maps.
These new geologic maps, topographic maps and other publications may be purchased online from the Missouri Geology Store (search for the map name) and at the sales counter located at 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla.
